Simple is easy…like Peter taking Ben for a bike ride this morning. Seems like yesterday when every evening Pete would ride his bike next to me while I walked. We would talk and walk…he didn’t want me to go by myself:) I luv him for being a thoughtful kid…which he is most of the time. Seems as he gets older..he is more and more on his own schedule..as he should be.
Last night when he got home from work and swimming…the neighbor boy came over and wanted Pete to go ride with him. Pete said he would in the morning, and then asked me to please get him up early so he could take Ben riding. Pete has to work on Tuesdays…so early up it was. Ben was ready..with his bike and jersey..and away they went.
This is what I saw as I headed out for my walk…Pete and Ben..heading for the trails. It made me proud…that Pete has such a big heart when it comes to younger kids..that he can be a role model...that he will actually take an interest and enjoys doing it. It is a reminder that age doesn’t matter at all..
All that friendship takes is a common bond..a common interest…and being interested in other people. I would like to think that I have taught my kids well. And for that I am proud.
The boys came and found us on our walk...after the trails were ridden, it was a good morning. The simple things...two boys...one dog...a friendship...summer mornings.
Always important to remember where your roots are...but more important is to be a giver...of your time to any young kid that is looking to ride...his bike!
