Fourth of July…a traditional family day…

I really thought this year that Pete and Chloe wouldn’t want to hang with us…we always go downtown and watch the parade with a great group of friends, so I was surprised when they both asked “We are riding bikes to the parade, aren’t we?” So ride we did…

Mine is orange, Chloe’s is green, Mike’s is black, and Peter’s is multicolor…after all we are a colorful family…in more ways than you think:)  See the 4th of July is about independence day…being your own person…with your own believes..at least that’s what it means for us in a nutshell…

My friends, Laura, Carrie, Mona, Tambra, and her granddaughter. We have played together… laughed together… boated together… grew up on Lake CDA together…scootered together…enjoyed every single sunny day sometimes all summer long…some of the best ladies I know.

CDA is the only place I have ever spent the 4th of July…one of the only traditions I brought with me as a kid…it reminds me so much of being a kid, like it was yesterday.

We watched…we clapped…we each went our own ways…Peter with his friends…Chloe with hers.  Mike and I decided to take a stroll down memory lane…a bike stroll…to smell and see all the sights that this town has to offer on the 4th of July.  Some of our friends leave town to go camping…we usually go out on the boat…but this year I wanted to pedal…all over town…so we did.

First stop was O’Shays…a local pup…Mike wanted a beer…and he even thought I would drink a Coors Light…you would think we had just got married:) I asked him if he was ever seen me drink a Coors Light…his answer was “No”.  No worries as he drank my beer also…

Next stop was the cemetery…where my dad is buried…nothing like riding your bike through one:) Kind of weird as I don’t like to go there, much better just to have the memory in my mind…I asked Mike if the kids know where Grandpa Darcy is buried, Mike said “Ya we use this short cut all the time”. It made me smile.

We went down to City Beach…I am not sure who was having more fun, Mike with my camera…or people watching…and let me tell you it was crazy busy.

See when I was a kid growing up in this town, I only swam at Sanders Beach, the one where all the locals go to…on the other side of Tubbs Hill…we only came to City Beach for swim lessons and to people watch…yep even as a kid it was fun…crazy fun as an adult on my orange cruiser bike on the 4th of JulySmile

Mike is such a good guy…most of the time:) Lately he has been getting mad at me…so I have been trying to mind my p’s and q’s.  I only dinged my bike bell at him 20 times today:) I luv my bell!! Ding Ding Ding…

We went all the way to Bardney’s…along the river…to find me a glass of red and a nice salad for lunch…but it was closed. So we turned back around and ended up at Moontime for a late lunch…and I had me a beer:) Just not a Coors Light…

I like the time that Mike and I get to spend together..it doesn’t happen often enough…but then again my life and his is all about Independence…I want to always depend on myself for happiness and being with Mike is bonus. I know Mike is the same way…we have always met in the middle though and it seems to work most of the time…as long as I don’t ring my bike bell to much at him:)

Our family is a lucky one…a lot of hard work…a lot of luv…a dash of patience…the kiddos are getting big…and they still want to hang with us.

Ok, got to get back outside and enjoy the rest of this day…we have fireworks to watch and homemade ice cream to eat…this is the barge that is on the lake to light off all the fireworks tonight…just like when I was a kid…so cool to see…
