Most boys have dogs when they were young…some as they grow are interested in girls…some just want to hang with their friends…and then there is my boy “Pete”. All that he ever wants to do is be on his mountain bike. So when Memorial Day came up around, we knew that as a family we would once again take on the task of “best family support ever”…cause that’s how we roll. This was the 3rd year that he was done this race, “24hr Round The Clock Mountain Bike Race”. The Hutter family teamed up and helped supported 20 riders this year, we had Peter and his 5 man team, the women's team of 5, our single lady team “Jenni”, another men's team of 4 and a few others in our camp. We are each assigned a task…Mike is the cook…Chloe is the lap counter-board keeper…I am everything in between and the picture taker. I luv my job!
This is a list of things that I have been good at packing…well not me so much…but Peter has it down to a tee:
WHAT TO BRING
Alarm clock, tent, minimum 150 lumen light, backup headlight (mag lights will work), fully charged batteries, red rear flasher, spare tubes, sleeping bag, pad, pillow, clothing in layers, helmets, towels, ear plugs, bug juice, sun block, personal hygiene stuff, bike, shoes, etc... BE PREPARED... spring weather can be ever changing!
It was a blast! Fast and fun with all this energy from the riders of all sizes and shapes going around the 15 mile course over the hills, through the puddles and to grandmas house and back!! Pete’s team came in first in their division, very proud of the old guys and the young guys…but most of all proud to be the mom of a mountain bike dude! Sometimes when the crazy 17yr old takes over…I just have to remind myself how lucky I am…a dirty, greasy hands type of kid that happens to luv all things bikes and the outdoors.
I had a lot of fun and even though I don’t ride, everyone always makes sure to include me…maybe cause I take some dang good pictures of some dang good mountain bikers:) I am sure that’s why!! As my pictures always tell a better story than I ever could, I shall share a few of my favorite pictures of some of my favorite people.
Ben is our mechanic…an all around great guy…mountain bike super dude…helps the boys as much as he rides. And by his own words “Old”…
This is our friend Ethan…he is a big part of where Pete gets his luv for the sport from. Pete always looked up at Ethan from a really young age…and Ethan was always the patience and kind one when it came to helping Pete. I thank Ethan every other day for this…except when it comes to Pete’s expensive taste in all things biking:)
My friend, Jen, her smile tells a hundred words…she is always good for a laugh, a ride, a wreck, and a beer. Happy to call her a true mtb chick!
Jess is going to kill me for this, but she is just one bad arise rider, a great lady with a wild way about her…how can you not like her!
Jenni was the solo lady rider for the group. She showed everyone what sure determination was all about..something like 13 laps and 7 of those without stopping…I have huge admiration for her..everyone should have a Jenni in their life…
And then there is Peter…my favorite subject to take pictures of..He has so much fun and just seeing the joy on his face, along with the dirt, skinning legs, long torso, and the way he rides…enough said…
Another weekend spent chasing dreams…the dreams of my kids…keep wondering if I will ever grow up…Dreams are good…they can be made into the real deal. What are your dreams? Something to think about at least. Have a good weekend, I know we are…
